A Lazy, Rainy Sunday Morning

A Lazy, Rainy Sunday Morning

Someone once wrote to me that rainy mornings are best spent in bed...and I agree...though 2 pugs and a cat do not equal other mornings I have had in the past few months...they are my reality this rainy morning...

Today is my Son's 27th Birthday. He has had a full weekend of celebration, and when I spoke to him earlier, he was enjoying brunch out and looking forward to napping most of the afternoon. Some memories for me are like yesterday, and others I have completely lost within 2 minutes. I clearly remember my pregnancy and Matts' birth...holding him, marveling at his perfection at 2 am feedings and enjoying every minute he contributed to making my house a home.

This is a picture of a watercolor I did of him 3 years ago. It is based on how I feel his personality and his love for soccer...it takes in to account his shoulder which was injured in an automobile accident...and his ever lovely orange hair.

Happy Birthday Matt...I love you with all my heart....

Saturday

Saturday

My life is finally hinting at a vague routine...and it feels really good. Today I had my Birthday lunch with my Dad...lucky me, he has been celebrating my Birthday with me for my entire life.
The pugs had their first 'wait in the crate" while I lunched, and I am proud to say they did well.

Tonight I watched Australia...just sitting and watching...the first time I have done this, and actually, though it may sound silly, a nice way to watch a movie...I am told that perhaps next time there will be popcorn...with condiments!

This is a picture I took in Yosemite...still enjoying these peaceful images in my mind...

March

March
March arrived yesterday...with clouds, rain, and joy. Today began what I historically refer to as my "Birthday Month"...let the traditions begin! Today I received my first "in the mail" card...and the phone call I potentially have received for 52 years from my lifetime best friend...in the past years, I have come to set my March by her call...reminding me how many days it is until I am older than she on paper...and always trying to set our "celebration date" after my Day, and prior to her Day. Our Father's were friends for years, as were our Mother's...her parents are both gone now, something I dread thinking about.

Part of participating in conversation, results in being the recipient of "advice"...during my second Birthday call today I got some really great advice...tell everyone you are 35...and when they question that...blame it on the dyslexia! I plan to try this ASAP!

This is a picture I took through the car window winding down the road home from Tomales Beach. There have been days when I have felt like this barn...a little worn...and alone...happily, most days those feelings are behind me...

Virginia

Virginia
Yesterday marked the 82nd Birthday of one of the World's Finest Women. Virginia has been my neighbor for 14 years, though it is only the last 4 or 5 that I have had the pleasure of knowing her. We have spent many hours this past year drinking, talking, laughing, crying and eating. We have built a strong friendship that has included her truly brightening my life...as well as just having one hell of a good time. One night recently we (okay me) lost my car on the streets of Sacramento. After a lovely meal, we took a "short cut" to the car (never a good idea) and ended up on the railroad tracks, in a suspect area of town, in the dark...all ended well when several blocks later we were safe and on our way.
Tonight I was honored to celebrate her Birthday...we dined on spinach ravioli, yam and gourgonzola bruchetta (how do you spell this anyway?) cosmopolitans, beer and wine (though not necessarily all beverages where consumed by all parties), and grasshopper cheese cake...now my face hurts from smiling and laughing and I am obsessionaly thinking how many miles must I run to remain calorie neutral???
PS...she is holding my cat Itty Bitty...that we "share"...it's a neighborhood thing....
